The only way to implement the future is to avoid having to predict it. -- Piumarta
Fighting entropy one day at a time... ChicagoRuby Ruby Code Tweaks slides, code and video
The slides from my ChicagoRuby 2010/5/4 presentation : http://kurtstephens.com/pub/ruby/ruby_code_tweaks/ All the raw data used to generate the graph should be referenced in the slides. The code used to generate the slides is here: http://github.com/kstephens/ruby_code_tweaks I’m looking to increase the set of code “Problems” to cover other tiny code idioms and platform issues, for example: regular expressions, numerics, etc. If you have ideas, take a look at the code and contact me. Justin Love gave a fantastic presentation on lambda and closure. Thanks to everyone who came — hope it was helpful. Excellent introduction to Ruby MRI’s GC and memory debugging: http://timetobleed.com/garbage-collection-slides-from-la-ruby-conference... Body-Weight Positioning in Cycling
Interesting video about the relationship of body weight and optimal body position related to generalized center of mass and the angle of the pedal during the top of the stroke. Sheds some light on the KOPS (knee-over-pedal) myth. I’ve been riding as forward as possible to get my body weight forward of the bottom bracket and over the pedal at the “11 o’clock” position. A more forward position helps keep cadence up in preparation for transitioning to running and makes it easier to get up out of the saddle.
Fighting with Stuffed Animals
“If you have to steal the bedcovers back from your stuffed animals at night, you’ve got bigger problems than being cold.” Scarlet - Ruby slideshow tool
There’s a bunch of minimalistic technical slide tools out there. I’m using Scarlet, so far I like it — simple Textile markup and it uses Pygments for code syntax coloring. I’m using ERB to generate the textile markup, which allows me to generate some slides programatically. Scarlet – http://github.com/jcxplorer/scarlet Nokia N900: a huge (initial) disappointment, not a smart phone, it's a computer
UPDATE: I ended up returning the N900. I thought I would give it a try as just a super-portable computer, but the media player would skip and often stop when using A2DP headphones. I hope some of these issues get resolved — I will certainly reconsider this device in the future, if it could replace a phone. The Baltimores - Plastico del Mundo
Album released on iTunes. I hate iTunes, but now people can get this album.
http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/plastico-del-mundo/id351081422 More Baltimores stuff to be released soon. Thanks, Dave! Ruby: Fixnum#gcd accepted into MRI
Ruby rational.rb clean-up and the Fixnum#gcd primitive was refactored into a new MRI extension. Fixnum#gcd is now defined during require ‘rational’. http://svn.ruby-lang.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/branches/ruby_1_8/ChangeLog?... http://redmine.ruby-lang.org/issues/show/2561 See http://kurtstephens.com/node/34 . |
